As Week 4 of the 2024 NFL season kicks off, analysts are already eyeing the 2025 draft, and a new mock draft suggests the Chicago Bears could land Colorado star Travis Hunter with the 12th overall pick.

Hunter, a leading Heisman Trophy contender, has showcased his elite skills at both wide receiver and cornerback over the past two seasons. Despite the Bears’ strength at these positions, a talent like Hunter might be too valuable to pass up. CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson notes, “The defense is solid, but you can create packages for him… You can find roles for Travis Hunter to make an impact.”

Hunter’s versatility was evident in Week 3 against Baylor, where he recorded 7 receptions for 130 yards and forced a game-sealing fumble. Through four games this season, he boasts 37 catches for 472 yards, averaging over 118 yards per game and scoring 5 touchdowns. Notably, he is the first FBS player in the last 20 seasons to achieve 100 receiving yards and a forced fumble in a single game.

Though the Bears have a strong cornerback lineup with All-Pro Jaylon Johnson and others, adding Hunter could provide an extra playmaker for quarterback Caleb Williams, especially with veteran Keenan Allen likely leaving after his one-year contract.

However, while the prospect of adding Hunter is enticing, the Bears may want to prioritize selecting an offensive lineman in the 2025 draft. Currently ranked 30th in sacks allowed, bolstering the offensive line is crucial for Williams’ development, especially after the Bears took tackle Darnell Wright in the first round of the 2023 draft. While Hunter’s addition is exciting, ensuring Williams has a solid offensive line is even more essential.
