49ers Receive Huge Boost with Positive Injury Updates on Purdy and Kittle!

The San Francisco 49ers are battling early-season injuries in the 2024-25 NFL campaign. After slipping to 1-2 in the NFC West following a tough loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, they’re eagerly awaiting the return of key players. Some encouraging news has surfaced about quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle.

Purdy, who underwent an MRI on his back earlier this week, is expected to fully participate in Wednesday’s practice, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Kittle, however, will be limited due to a lingering hamstring issue. Week 3 was especially challenging for the 49ers, with both Kittle and dynamic wide receiver Deebo Samuel sitting out. Despite back soreness after a strong 22-of-30, 292-yard, three-touchdown performance against the Rams, Purdy, in his third season, appears to be on track for Week 4.

Even with limited offensive options, Purdy has performed admirably, averaging 280.6 passing yards with four touchdowns and only one interception. His full participation in practice is a positive sign that he’ll be ready to face the New England Patriots on September 29.

The 49ers have more injuries on the roster

In addition to Kittle’s absence, the 49ers have been hit hard with other injuries. Kittle has missed the last two games, leaving Purdy to work with backup tight end Eric Saubert and fullback Kyle Juszczyk. The final injury report won’t be released until 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday, but by Friday, there should be a clearer picture of who will be available.

Sep 22, 2024; Inglewood, California, USA; San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) is stopped by Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Braden Fiske (55) and defensive tackle Kobie Turner (91) for a first down in the second half at SoFi Stadium.

Defensive players Nick Bosa, Charvarius Ward, Dee Winters, and Talanoa Hufanga were all listed with injuries heading into Week 3. Ward and Hufanga stood out, combining for 16 tackles against the Rams, while Bosa, hindered by his injury, managed two tackles and a quarterback hit.

With Purdy and Kittle trending toward playing this week, the 49ers will need all their offensive firepower. Samuel’s status remains uncertain and will be monitored closer to game day, while there’s no new update on Christian McCaffrey as he continues to treat his Achilles injury.

The 49ers are set to host the Patriots at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 4:05 PM ET.
