The Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys are expected to be strong contenders in the NFC for the 2024 season. The Cowboys are coming off three consecutive seasons with 12 regular-season victories, while the Packers surged in the latter half of the 2023 season. As the 2024 season approaches, a particular report has been consistently going viral throughout the league.

Alex Kay of Bleacher Report highlighted several trades that could significantly impact the NFL before the 2024 season. One that continues to capture attention is the possibility of CeeDee Lamb of the Cowboys joining the Packers. The Cowboys have surprisingly failed to reach a long-term contract extension with the All-Pro receiver. Adding to the drama, team owner Jerry Jones remarked that there isn’t a sense of urgency to finalize a deal before the 2024 season begins.

Although there’s a strong likelihood that Lamb and the Cowboys—the team that drafted him in 2020 and helped him rise to stardom with a remarkable 135-catch, 1,749-yard, 12-touchdown season last year—will eventually agree to a long-term deal, trade rumors will continue to swirl until the 25-year-old signs his contract.

Speculation intensified after Lamb responded to Jones’ comments with an “lol” on X. ESPN’s Courtney Cronin suggested that it wouldn’t be surprising if Lamb eventually requests a trade, potentially forcing Dallas to either deal him or risk losing him as a free agent next spring.

Should the three-time Pro Bowler demand a trade, the Green Bay Packers should seriously consider making a move. Jordan Love has solidified his status as a franchise quarterback, and pairing him with a generational talent like Lamb could be a game-changer.

While the Packers have a talented group of wide receivers, a true No. 1 option has yet to emerge among Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks. Green Bay could offer one of these promising players in a package deal for Lamb, which would also help clear the crowded receiver room.

Watson would be the most logical choice to trade, given his high potential and the redundancy he would create in a Lamb-led receiving corps.

Selected in the second round of the 2022 draft, the 25-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance when not hampered by injuries. Despite missing 11 games, Watson has recorded 69 catches for 1,033 yards and an impressive 12 touchdowns in the 23 games he has played.

Offering Watson and a couple of high draft picks might be enough to land Lamb if he pushes for a trade. The Packers would need to navigate some financial hurdles to extend Lamb immediately after acquiring him, but the potential payoff could elevate the offense to new heights with Lamb as the centerpiece. While the Packers have made significant trades in recent years, dealing away Davante Adams, Aaron Rodgers, and effectively Aaron Jones (in a free agency swap for Josh Jacobs), trading for Lamb and making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the league doesn’t align with their offensive strategy. The Packers have five receivers they are confident in, including Christian Watson, and the front office is keen to allow this young core to develop alongside Jordan Love for the long term.
