Thirteen years ago, Pat Maroon, then a rookie for the Ducks, made his NHL debut at the United Center against the Blackhawks.

“I remember my first shift; I moved up the wall, got hit hard by Brent Seabrook, and the puck ended up with Corey Perry,” Maroon recounted. “I had a two-on-one with Ryan Getzlaf, he passed it to me, and I missed it. After we sat down, Getzlaf said to me, ‘I thought you were a right-hand shot.’”

Now, at 36 and still a left-handed shooter, Maroon’s move to the Blackhawks feels like a full-circle moment. While he’s not yet ready to discuss his retirement plans, it’s clear that it’s at least on the horizon.
