The San Francisco 49ers have been in discussions with multiple teams about trading All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, as the two sides remain at an impasse over contract negotiations. Talks of an extension have stalled since the spring, with Aiyuk having requested a trade earlier in the offseason.

Recent reports indicate that San Francisco has engaged in trade talks with the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cleveland Browns. A deal was nearly finalized to send Aiyuk to the Patriots, but the receiver declined the move. The 49ers also have a potential agreement in place to trade Aiyuk to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a package that includes fellow wide receiver Amari Cooper.

As Week 1 of the regular season approaches, the chances of Aiyuk staying in San Francisco appear slim.

Shanahan spoke on the local Bay Area radio station KNBR on Thursday, and when asked about the Aiyuk trade rumors, he suggested that a deal might be on the horizon.

“If it doesn’t work out, you always try your best to get fair value,” Shanahan said. “Whether it’s fair value for the future, fair value for now, you’re always hoping for both. BA’s got to agree on that too. We’re considering all options.”

However, the coach also expressed hope that Aiyuk and the 49ers could still reach an agreement. Despite this, his earlier remarks are quite telling.

This past spring, the 49ers reportedly offered Aiyuk $26 million, while Pittsburgh is said to have offered $28 million, and the Patriots $32 million.

Regarding compensation, Pittsburgh has yet to meet San Francisco’s demands in the trade talks for Aiyuk, as they are seeking a receiver to be included in the package for the star wideout.
