Lamar Jackson may not dwell on personal accolades, but they keep coming his way. He was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week for the 11th time in his career following a stellar performance in the Ravens’ thrilling 41-38 overtime victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Jackson delivered a season-best 348 passing yards and four touchdowns, leading Baltimore to a comeback win after trailing by 10 points twice in the fourth quarter. Known for producing unforgettable moments, the two-time MVP added another to his resume in Week 5. After mishandling a snap in the fourth quarter, Jackson scrambled backward, stiff-armed defensive end Sam Hubbard twice, and, while being hit by Bengals linebacker Jermaine Pratt, launched a leaping throw from the 20-yard line into the end zone.
Isaiah Likely soared between three Bengals defenders, including former Ravens safety Geno Stone, to make an incredible touchdown catch that pulled Baltimore within three points. Hubbard dropped to his knees in disbelief, struggling to comprehend what had just happened. He wasn’t alone.
“It was an incredible, iconic play that’ll be replayed on NFL films for years to come,” said Head Coach John Harbaugh. “It’s the type of play that defines Lamar’s career.”
The play exemplified Jackson’s athleticism and awareness, which have fueled Baltimore’s current three-game winning streak. During this stretch, Jackson has thrown seven touchdowns with zero interceptions.
Baltimore needed everything Jackson had to edge out the Bengals, who were led by Joe Burrow’s five touchdown passes. After starting 0-2, the Ravens have turned things around, and Jackson appears primed for another MVP-caliber season.
When asked where the touchdown to Likely ranked among his career highlights, Jackson remained humble. “It was cool. I don’t know. It was cool,” he said.
Derrick Henry, however, had a different take: “That was like a third MVP moment for Lamar. He’s the best player in the league; he’s the G.O.A.T. for a reason.”
For the first time since 2019, the Ravens secured back-to-back AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Henry took home the award in Week 4 after a dominant 199-yard, two-touchdown performance.
