The Miami Dolphins had high hopes that backup quarterback Tyler Huntley would show significant improvement between his first and second starts with the team. Although his performance and a narrow win against the struggling New England Patriots suggest only minor progress, Huntley’s development has yet to reassure fans who were thinking Super Bowl or bust at the start of the season.
Heading into their bye week after a 15-10 victory in Foxborough, Huntley now has additional time to familiarize himself with the offense and better utilize the speed at his disposal. The break also provides Tua Tagovailoa more time to recover from his third confirmed concussion, sustained in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.
While the Dolphins’ current position is an improvement from a couple of games ago—coming off a blowout loss to the Tennessee Titans led by backup QB Mason Rudolph—everything is relative. The situation in South Florida still feels dire compared to the heights reached by Mike McDaniel’s offense just a year ago, when even the sky seemed like no limit.
