Just five games into the 2024 season, the Broncos still haven’t broken their streak of not having a single player reach 1,000 yards in rushing or receiving since 2019.
As they approach a Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, Javonte Williams leads the team with 190 rushing yards and no touchdowns, averaging just 38 yards per game. On the receiving side, Courtland Sutton, the last player to reach the 1,000-yard mark, has 224 yards and one touchdown, averaging 44.8 yards per game.
The team’s offensive struggles are evident, and relief may not come soon. According to Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine, the Broncos are projected to target Boise State’s electrifying running back Ashton Jeanty in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jeanty, a Heisman Trophy frontrunner, has put together an outstanding season at Boise State, earning him Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Year honors. Standing at 5-foot-9 and 215 pounds, the Frisco, Texas native became just the eighth FBS player since 1996 to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in the first five games of a season after a 186-yard, three-touchdown performance against Utah State.
“If Bo Nix is going to succeed as the franchise quarterback, he’ll need a strong supporting cast,” Ballentine wrote. “The Broncos need a dynamic back like Ashton Jeanty, who has been putting up video-game numbers and has the versatility, balance, and vision to be a Day 1 pick.”
