The Pittsburgh Steelers have expressed interest in acquiring Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, but securing the star player won’t be easy. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints are currently the frontrunners to land Adams, as both teams have quarterbacks he’s previously worked with, which he prefers in any trade scenario. Schefter notes that the Steelers are currently just “window shopping” and will only get serious if talks fall apart between the Jets and Saints.
As for a potential trade package, Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report reports that the Raiders are asking for a second-round pick and another selection while refusing to take on any of Adams’ future salary. Given Adams’ hefty cap hits of over $35 million for the next two seasons, restructuring his contract would likely be necessary for any team that acquires him.
Despite the Raiders wanting a quick resolution, they won’t move Adams without the right offer. Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce stated that it’s “status quo” for Adams this week, adding that they’ll only trade him if they receive an acceptable deal.
Adams is currently dealing with a hamstring injury that’s kept him sidelined for the last two weeks, but he’s expected to be ready to play if a trade occurs. The deadline for a deal that would enable him to suit up this week is likely Tuesday. For now, it seems the Steelers are on the sidelines, waiting to see if the Jets or Saints make a move, as no team has come close to meeting the Raiders’ demands.
