After celebrating their thrilling Game 3 win over the Brewers in the Wild Card round, the New York Mets now turn their attention to the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies. Manager Carlos Mendoza has named Kodai Senga as the Game 1 starter, despite Senga having made just one appearance this season due to a calf injury. Though his stamina remains uncertain after the long layoff, Senga is determined to give it his all.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Senga emphasized his willingness to stay on the mound as long as needed. “If they say 10 pitches, I’m all in for 10 pitches,” he stated. “If they say 200, I’m in for 200.”
While the days of pitchers throwing complete games and over 125 pitches are long gone—and it’s unlikely Mendoza would push Senga to that extent—it’s a sentiment that’s sure to energize Mets management, teammates, and fans alike.
