Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic is widely recognized as one of the NBA’s elite players, but concerns about his durability and ability to maintain peak performance over an 82-game season persist as the new year approaches. Last season, Doncic led the Mavericks to the NBA Finals, marking his first appearance in the championship series as he heads into his seventh year with the team. With the team’s championship hopes high, the NBA world held its breath when news broke about his injury during practice on Wednesday.
NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Doncic sustained a left calf contusion earlier this week after being struck in the leg during a team workout. Fortunately, the injury isn’t considered serious, and he is set to be reevaluated in one week.
Marc Stein added that the injury occurred during a weekend workout in Dallas, just before the Mavericks departed for training camp in Las Vegas.
The Mavericks have confirmed that Doncic will be sidelined for at least a week while he recovers.
