FRISCO – The Dallas Cowboys’ 20-15 victory over the New York Giants on Thursday night came at a higher cost than expected. A day later, the team confirmed that star pass rushers DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons both sustained injuries, and their initial optimism about a quick recovery proved to be misplaced.
Parsons has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, and hopes for him to suit up in Week 5 against Pittsburgh have quickly faded.
Head coach Mike McCarthy revealed on Friday that the injuries are more severe than the team initially thought, stating: “I don’t have a specific timeline, but we’ll know more on Monday. There will be second opinions involved for both players. The injuries are worse than we anticipated.”
The 2-2 Cowboys will now rely on defensive ends Marshawn Kneeland, Chauncey Golston, Carlos Watkins, Tyrus Wheat, and Carl Lawson to fill the void for what could be an extended absence.
