The Los Angeles Lakers have been partnered with Korean food distributor Bibigo as their jersey sponsor since just before the 2021-22 NBA season. Previously, the Lakers’ jerseys featured a patch from their former sponsor, online shopping platform Wish, as part of the league’s introduction of jersey sponsors. Bibigo, widely recognized for its frozen food products in the U.S., has had its logo displayed on Lakers jerseys for the past three seasons with a small patch on the upper left corner featuring a bowl, chopsticks, and a spoon.
Now, the Lakers and Bibigo are taking things further by changing the jersey patch and making history. This season, the Lakers will be the first NBA team to display Korean characters on their jersey, a move that not only highlights the partnership but also brings more visibility to the Bibigo brand. It aligns with Lakers governor Jeanie Buss’ vision of keeping the franchise forward-thinking and innovative.
The new Bibigo patch will appear just below a band honoring Jerry West, a Lakers legend who passed away this offseason. West is considered one of the most important figures in both Lakers and NBA history.
In other news, the Lakers have revealed their full list of promotional giveaways for the 2024-25 season. Key events include Michael Cooper’s jersey retirement night on Jan. 13 against the Spurs, where fans will receive a Cooper jersey, and a special three-part Jerry Buss pin set giveaway on Nov. 13, Jan. 21, and March 31. Additionally, the Lakers will celebrate “Girl Dad Night” on Feb. 27 during their matchup against the Timberwolves.
Opening Night kicks off on Oct. 22, as the Lakers host the Timberwolves and honor the legacy of Jerry West. Other notable giveaways include a holiday sweater on Dec. 23 against the Pistons, a license plate frame on Jan. 3 against the Hawks, and a purple and gold luggage strap on March 4 against the Pelicans.
