Arizona Cardinals Facing Major Setback: Jonah Williams to Miss Time After Knee Injury
The Arizona Cardinals are bracing for the absence of starting right tackle Jonah Williams, who is expected to be sidelined for “some time” following a knee injury, according to ESPN’s NFL insider Jeremy Fowler.
Williams suffered the injury during the Cardinals’ 34-28 loss to the Buffalo Bills, leaving the game in the first half and not returning. Fowler reported that the team is still determining the full extent of the injury and a timeline for his recovery.
Signed in March to a two-year, $30 million contract, Williams was a key free-agent acquisition for the Cardinals, expected to solidify the right side of their offensive line. In his debut, he was instrumental in helping Arizona score on their first three drives—something they hadn’t done on opening day since 2006. However, after his departure, the Cardinals’ offense struggled, with backup tackle Kelvin Beachum stepping in but allowing significant pressure, including four sacks on quarterback Kyler Murray.
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon hinted that an update on Williams’ condition could come midweek, as the team prepares to face the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2. If Williams is placed on injured reserve, he will be required to miss at least four weeks, and his return will depend on a 21-day practice window.
With uncertainty looming, Williams’ absence is a major blow for a Cardinals team already fighting to find its rhythm this season.
