Following Friday’s tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, where a 14-year-old fatally shot four people and injured several others, the Atlanta Falcons are paying tribute to the victims.
Ahead of their season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, the team donned Apalachee Wildcats T-shirts during warm-ups and shared a photo on X with the message, “Our hearts are with you, Apalachee High School.” The incident, Georgia’s deadliest school shooting, led to the arrests of the suspect and his father.
Apalachee High School is located just 25 minutes from the Falcons’ practice facility in Flowery Branch, Atlanta.
Atlanta News First’s Baillie Burmaster reported that Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins mentioned head coach Raheem Morris gathered the team on Friday to inform them about the tragedy. In addition to the four fatalities, nine others were injured and are expected to recover, per the Associated Press.
It remains unclear whether a moment of silence or tribute will take place before the game.
