On Wednesday, the Brooklyn Nets announced several staff changes, featuring B.J. Johnson’s promotion from Director of Player Evaluation to Assistant GM, along with a restructuring of the performance team. Johnson, who joined the Nets six years ago from USA Basketball, replaces Jeff Peterson, who has become the GM of the Charlotte Hornets. Johnson has been instrumental in scouting, notably advocating for Nic Claxton, the Nets’ current starting center.
Additionally, Ben Williams, a British sports scientist, will now lead the Nets’ performance team, stepping in for Les Gelis. Williams, known for his innovative approach in various sports, including English football, has no prior basketball experience. Other key changes include Geoff Staton joining as Head Athletic Trainer, Noah John being promoted to Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Serra Tumay coming on board as the team’s Performance Dietitian.
Further promotions within the organization include Makar Gevorkian to VP of Basketball Operations and Glenn DuPaul to VP of Basketball Analytics. The coaching staff also welcomes Dutch Gaitley from the Sacramento Kings as an assistant coach.
