ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Bo Nix is set for his next game action in Week 1 in Seattle.

Broncos Head Coach Sean Payton revealed on Friday that Jarrett Stidham will start the team’s preseason finale against the Cardinals, playing “the first series or so” before Zach Wilson takes over.

“I want to see [Stidham] get 8 to 12 plays, then we’ll give Zach a lot of work starting in the first or early second quarter,” Payton explained.

Wilson is expected to work with the second-team offense, after previously practicing with the third unit throughout training camp.

“This will be a valuable test for Zach as he works with the second team,” Payton said. “He’ll get plenty of snaps.” Payton also noted that several starters will sit out the preseason finale against the Cardinals.

A few key players will still participate, including safety Brandon Jones, cornerback Levi Wallace, and running back Audric Estime.

“We’re carefully monitoring the snaps,” Payton said. “On defense, we need to evaluate where Jones and Levi stand. A few guys who haven’t seen much action will get more reps. This game will be focused more on two phases rather than three.”

As Stidham and Wilson make their final preseason push, Payton noted the Broncos have a solid grasp of their quarterback situation.

“We’ll meet shortly with [General Manager] George [Paton] and others to review the depth chart and discuss players,” Payton said. “While nothing is officially announced yet, I feel confident about the direction we’re heading with the quarterbacks. I’m pleased with the progress we’ve made.”
