The New Orleans Pelicans have signed swingman Javonte Green to a one-year contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
At 31 years old and standing 6-foot-4, Green has predominantly been with the Chicago Bulls. Last season, he played nine games after signing a series of 10-day contracts, eventually earning a standard contract in March. During that stint, he averaged 12.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, shooting 60% from the field and 37% from three-point range.
Green’s time with the Bulls spanned from 2020 to 2023, including a period with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League. In the 2022-23 season, he played 32 games for Chicago, averaging 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds, and shooting 56% from the field with a 32% success rate from beyond the arc.
He signed a training camp deal with the Golden State Warriors last October but was waived shortly thereafter. During his 10 games with the Santa Cruz Warriors, Green averaged 12.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals.
In total, Green has played 195 NBA games with the Bulls and Boston Celtics and has also been with the Maine Red Claws in the G League. He was traded to the Bulls from the Celtics in 2021 as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Washington Wizards.
Once Green’s contract is finalized, the Pelicans will have 15 players on their roster, with 13 having guaranteed contracts and all three two-way spots filled. New Orleans ended last season with a 49-33 record but was eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
