The Boston Bruins are gearing up for another strong season. After setting records for wins and points two years ago, they are determined to prove they can dominate once again in 2024-25.
However, despite their regular-season success in 2022-23, they couldn’t convert it into a Stanley Cup, falling to the Florida Panthers, the eventual champions, in the second round after defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In the offseason, the Bruins sought to strengthen their lineup by addressing a weakness at center, signing free agent Elias Lindholm from the Vancouver Canucks to be their top center alongside David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha.
They also bolstered their defense by acquiring Nikita Zadorov, a towering 6’6″, 245-pound defenseman. The Bruins hope Zadorov will enhance their traditionally physical style of play.
Boston’s core remains solid, with stars like Pastrnak, captain Brad Marchand, defenseman Charlie McAvoy, and goaltender Jeremy Swayman. Additionally, young talents like Justin Brazeau, Matthew Poitras, and Fabian Lysell are poised to make valuable contributions.
Head coach Jim Montgomery also has veterans Morgan Geekie, Trent Frederic, and Andrew Peeke, who could help the Bruins achieve another remarkable season.
1. Morgan Geekie’s Breakout Potential
Geekie is expected to start as the right wing on the second line, playing alongside center Charlie Coyle and left wing Brad Marchand. The 26-year-old, who had his best season yet with 17 goals and 22 assists, could be primed for a breakout year. With his excellent skating and size (6’3″, 200 pounds), Geekie is set to take on a bigger role, especially with the loss of winger Jake DeBrusk in free agency.
2. Trent Frederic’s Steady Growth
Frederic, set to play left wing on the third line, has shown steady improvement, with 18 goals and 22 assists last season. Known for his toughness and all-out effort, Frederic could surprise with a 20-goal season, making him a key contributor to the Bruins’ success.
3. Andrew Peeke’s Dependability on Defense
Acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets at the trade deadline, Peeke made a strong first impression with his solid defensive play. Now, with a full season ahead, the 6’3″, 210-pound defenseman is expected to be a reliable presence on the blue line, providing the physicality and steady play the Bruins need in crucial moments.
