In his first game back from the injured list, Michael Harris II hit a grand slam in the first inning, helping the Atlanta Braves secure a 13-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night. Matt Olson, Austin Riley, and Sean Murphy also contributed home runs as the Braves achieved their third consecutive win against the Giants.
Grant Holmes (1-0) earned his first major league win by pitching a season-high seven innings, which clinched the season series for the Braves. The Giants’ Robbie Ray (2-2) struggled, hitting the first two batters and walking two others, which allowed the Braves to score their initial runs. Harris’s grand slam, his sixth home run of the season, highlighted a five-run first inning.
Ray faced only two more batters before being pulled, having allowed five runs on just one hit, though he struck out both batters he retired. Olson’s 21st home run, Riley’s 19th, and Murphy’s two-run shot extended the Braves’ lead throughout the game. The Braves added two more runs in the ninth, thanks to three walks by Mike Yastrzemski, who pitched the final inning. Harris also drove in his career-high fifth RBI with a bases-loaded groundout.
Holmes allowed two runs on eight hits in his seven innings, with one walk and six strikeouts. For the Giants, Tyler Fitzgerald hit a leadoff homer and Brett Wisely had an RBI single. Olson, Ramon Laureano, and Whit Merrifield each had two hits for the Braves, who scored more runs (13) than hits (11). Fitzgerald and Michael Conforto had two hits each for the Giants, who suffered their fourth consecutive loss.
