It’s fitting that Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.’s first joint practice took place in Indianapolis, the city where his father built a Hall of Fame career.
Born in 2002, Harrison Jr. has few memories of his father’s 13-year tenure with the Colts, which ended in 2008, but he recognizes the significance of this full-circle moment.
“It’s kind of surreal,” Harrison Jr. said Wednesday, via the team’s official website. “My first joint practice against the Colts—who would have imagined that?” Harrison Sr. was present for the first of two practices the Cardinals and Colts will have before their preseason game this weekend.
While Harrison Jr. honors the past, he’s focused on creating his own legacy.
“I’ve gotten to this point by forging my own path,” Harrison Jr. said. “I just want to work hard and see where it leads.” The No. 4 overall pick made his debut in the Cardinals’ first preseason game against New Orleans, playing three snaps. Coach Jonathan Gannon hasn’t disclosed how much Harrison Jr. will play—if at all—this week against Indianapolis.
“For a rookie, he’s as professional as they come,” Gannon said. “He’s excited to play in Indiana for obvious reasons. He works hard every day, keeps his head down, and takes care of business.”
