Logan Gilbert Dominates in Mariners’ 4-0 Win Over Mets
SEATTLE — Logan Gilbert pitched seven shutout innings and, alongside two relievers, contributed to the Mariners’ MLB-leading 13th shutout of the season, defeating the New York Mets 4-0 on Saturday night.
Gilbert was exceptional, yielding just three hits and replicating Bryce Miller’s performance from Friday’s series opener, where Miller also threw six scoreless innings. Gilbert allowed a leadoff single to Francisco Lindor but did not surrender another hit until Lindor’s second single in the sixth inning.
Lindor’s second hit marked the only instance Gilbert disagreed with catcher Cal Raleigh during the game. Mariners manager Scott Servais noted that the sixth inning was the only time he felt concerned about Gilbert’s performance.
“He was behind some hitters in that inning, which was unusual for him,” Servais said. “In the seventh inning, he asserted himself and took control.”
Gilbert (7-8) struck out six and walked just one, earning his first win since July 9. His seven-inning scoreless outing was his fifth of the season, the most in the majors.
Yimi García and Andrés Muñoz closed out the game, helping Seattle surpass Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Boston for the most shutouts this season. Muñoz has not allowed a hit in his last 11 appearances.
Seattle’s offense, led by Justin Turner who drove in two runs, provided early support with three runs in the first inning on three doubles and a single. Victor Robles and Randy Arozarena hit the first two doubles, while Turner’s double and Mitch Haniger’s single added to the lead.
Mets starter Sean Manaea (8-5) struggled, allowing three runs in the first inning and finishing with his shortest start of the season, lasting only three innings with five walks and four hits.
