The Minnesota Vikings have signed first-round quarterback J.J. McCarthy to a fully-guaranteed four-year deal. On Friday morning, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Vikings and McCarthy agreed on a standard four-year rookie contract, which is fully guaranteed.
Schefter broke the news on X, the website formerly known as Twitter. According to his report, the No. 10 overall pick, J.J. McCarthy, signed a four-year, fully-guaranteed contract worth $21.85 million, including a $12.71 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.
McCarthy had an impressive career at Michigan, where he joined in 2021 and helped the Wolverines reach three consecutive College Football Playoff appearances. During his time there, he threw for 6,226 yards, completed 67.6 percent of his passes, and recorded 49 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions.
In 2022 and 2023, McCarthy led Michigan as a starter, guiding the team to win the National Championship. This was Michigan’s first championship since the notable 1997 season, achieved by defeating Alabama and Washington.
The Vikings selected McCarthy with the tenth overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, following Kirk Cousins’ departure to Atlanta in the offseason. Minnesota hopes that drafting McCarthy will be a crucial step toward winning their first Super Bowl championship.
With the signing complete, the Vikings now look to the future with McCarthy at the helm.
