The Brooklyn Nets might pair Ben Simmons with a player often compared to a 6-foot-5 version of him. Nets reporter Erik Slater announced on Monday that the team is attending a workout for guard Killian Hayes this week in Las Vegas. Hayes is seeking another NBA opportunity after being waived by the Detroit Pistons last February.
At 22, Hayes was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, chosen over future All-Stars like Tyrese Haliburton and Tyrese Maxey. Despite this, Hayes has struggled to meet expectations in his four NBA seasons, becoming a meme due to his poor shooting (38.2 percent from the field and 27.7 percent from three), frequent turnovers, and questionable decision-making. His career highlight so far might be an altercation with the Orlando Magic.
No team picked up Hayes after his release by Detroit last season, but the Nets might give him another chance as they look to strengthen their backcourt.
