New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers ignited trade rumors this week at a golf tournament in Nevada by expressing his eagerness to play with his former Green Bay Packers teammate, Davante Adams, again. Although Adams currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders, speculation has linked him to the Jets in the past. Rodgers isn’t alone in his enthusiasm; Garrett Wilson also believes Adams would be a significant asset to the team, even though the trade seems unlikely at this stage.
“I see that. I’m excited. I’m with all of it,” Wilson said about the Adams rumors, according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. “Anyone we can get into the facility to help this team win games, I’m with it and he’s one of those.” The Jets previously attempted to acquire Adams before last season’s trade deadline but were unsuccessful. As the current WR1, Wilson recognizes the potential impact of pairing with Adams, Rodgers’ favorite target during their time in Green Bay.
Adams commented on the rumors during an appearance on Up And Adams, mentioning Rodgers’ persistent efforts: “He’s in the ear, that’s for sure, he’s in the ear,” Adams said. “But it’s not as easy. Obviously, we can get together and talk about the old times and the potential of doing this and that, but like I said, I’m a Raider, and he knows that.”
The Jets are aiming for Super Bowl contention in 2024, regardless of whether Adams joins the roster. Rodgers, who missed the 2023 season due to a torn Achilles, is nearing full health and will have a talented group of players around him, led by Garrett Wilson. Wilson, who had 95 catches for 1,042 yards and three touchdowns last season without Rodgers, is expected to excel further with a Hall of Fame quarterback.
In addition to Wilson, the Jets’ offense features Allen Lazard and emerging running back star Breece Hall, along with a bolstered offensive line. The team’s defense is already strong, adding to their contender status.
Jets backup QB Tyrod Taylor praised the team’s potential: “A ton of talent at every position,” Taylor said via the team’s official website. “Obviously, I’ve had a chance to go against this group of guys last year and even practice against them two years ago in training camp. A very talented roster and just being around the guys is fun. Great locker room to be around, great coaching staff as well. We have big expectations, but it’s really about putting in the work day in and day out, not looking too far ahead, enjoying the process, staying true to the process and striving to be better every day.”
While it’s uncertain if Adams will ever don a Jets jersey, his addition could create one of the best WR duos in the league.
