Now that the Cardinals’ offseason work has wrapped up, players have left the facility. Many emphasize that this period isn’t a break from football but rather time away from the facility, encouraging players to stay focused and ready for training camp in Glendale on July 23. Meanwhile, azcardinals.com will evaluate each position group leading up to camp.

OL Overview 16x9

Next up, the offensive line.

Locks: Paris Johnson Jr., Evan Brown, Hjalte Froholdt, Will Hernandez, Jonah Williams, Isaiah Adams, Christian Jones, Kelvin Beachum

Hjalte Froholdt was a standout for the Cardinals last season. Snapping to three different quarterbacks was a challenge, especially for someone with only six prior starts at the position. Nevertheless, Froholdt became a reliable presence on the line, earning praise from teammates. Will Hernandez, playing beside him, also made significant contributions throughout the year.

Evan Brown has been vying for a starting spot, primarily at left guard, and has earned respect from his peers. Coach Jonathan Gannon has announced that Paris Johnson Jr. will start at left tackle, with free agent addition Jonah Williams on the right side. This decision was expected after the Cardinals drafted Johnson with the sixth overall pick last year. D.J. Humphries’ injury and Williams’ strong performance in Cincinnati hastened this move.

In April, the Cardinals drafted Isaiah Adams and Christian Jones in the third and fifth rounds, respectively. Both are expected to compete for game day snaps and are considered likely locks for the 2024 roster. Veteran Kelvin Beachum also contributed significantly, stepping in at left tackle during two of the Cardinals’ four wins.

Work to Do: Jon Gaines II, Elijah Wilkinson, Trystan Colon, Carter O’Donnell, Keith Ismael, Jackson Barton, Dennis Daley, Marquis Hayes, Austen Pleasants

Last year, the Cardinals had ten offensive linemen on the Week 1 roster. Elijah Wilkinson, Trystan Colon, and Carter O’Donnell all had reps at left guard and will compete for roster spots again in 2024. Jon Gaines II is a wild card, having spent last season on injured reserve with a knee injury. His health and readiness will be closely monitored during training camp.

Upgrade Odds: Low

With 17 offensive linemen on the roster and a clear focus on this area during the offseason, the Cardinals seem confident in their current lineup. The offensive line also played a key role in helping James Conner achieve his first career 1,000-yard season.
