Former New England Patriots wide receiver Tre Nixon announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday via Instagram.
Nixon, 26, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft at No. 242 by the Patriots. He played three seasons at the University of Central Florida, where he suffered a shoulder injury during his final season, limiting him to four games with 19 receptions for 260 yards and two touchdowns.
Nixon was notable as Ernie Adams’ final draft pick before Adams retired from the Patriots.
“Football has been a huge part of my life for the past 20 years,” Nixon wrote. “I’ll forever cherish the memories and relationships I’ve made while playing this game. I am truly grateful for everyone who’s supported me along this journey and I’m excited for what God has in store for me next.” Nixon was waived by the Patriots in August 2023 and spent time on the practice squad without appearing in a regular season game. After his release, he did not sign with another team.
Nixon officially parted ways with New England in March 2024 when the Patriots chose not to re-sign him.
