The return of college football and the NFL is fast approaching as we enter the final month without football. With training camp on the horizon, teams will be looking to finalize their rosters in preparation for the preseason. For NFL teams still seeking capable starters, there are five LSU Tigers free agents available who could fill crucial roles.
**Jamal Adams – Safety**
The Seattle Seahawks released Jamal Adams at the start of the offseason to save salary cap space as they transition into the post-Pete Carroll era. Surprisingly, no team has signed the former All-Pro to enhance their defense. While Adams has struggled with numerous injuries, he has been a standout player when healthy, recording 48 tackles in nine games this season. Although many teams might hesitate to gamble on Adams as a safety, he could excel as a linebacker, especially given his prowess as a blitzer. The Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens are two teams that could benefit from his versatility, having successfully utilized similar players in the past.
**Kwon Alexander – Linebacker**
Kwon Alexander’s free-agent status is likely due to his recovery from a torn Achilles he suffered in week ten last season. If Alexander is healthy and ready to play this season, there’s no reason a team shouldn’t take a chance on the Pro-Bowl linebacker. Throughout his career, Alexander has been a reliable tackler and effective in pass coverage. The Ravens, in particular, should consider signing the veteran linebacker to strengthen their corps.
**Patrick Peterson – Cornerback**
Since departing from the Arizona Cardinals, Patrick Peterson has been a dependable cornerback for both the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last season, Peterson played all 17 games with the Steelers, recording two interceptions and 42 tackles. While he may no longer be the lockdown cornerback he once was, Peterson can still provide value to a secondary. Teams like the Lions and the Ravens, who have first-round picks at cornerback, could benefit greatly from Peterson’s mentorship.
**Leonard Fournette – Running Back**
Despite a solid 2022 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Leonard Fournette has yet to find a stable opportunity with another team. Fournette briefly joined the Buffalo Bills at the end of the 2023 season, playing in two games before being released. In 2022, Fournette demonstrated his ability as a receiver more than ever before, making it puzzling why he hasn’t found a new team. An ideal landing spot for Fournette could be the New York Giants, who recently parted ways with Saquon Barkley and have a younger running back room. In New York, he could also play alongside Malik Nabers.
**Jarvis Landry – Wide Receiver**
Earlier this offseason, Jarvis Landry had a workout with the Jacksonville Jaguars but remains unsigned. After missing the 2023 season due to injury, Landry is ready to return if given a chance. When healthy, Landry has been a reliable slot receiver, catching 25 passes for 272 yards in nine games with the Saints. Numerous teams in need of wide receiver depth should consider signing Landry, who could also serve as a valuable veteran mentor for a young receiving corps.
