Sports bettors don’t seem to trust the recent report that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott’s sprained foot is a minor injury. This week, photos of Prescott wearing a walking boot on his right foot surfaced online.
Bettors already suspected Prescott wasn’t at full health. The photos appeared shortly after professional sports bettor Steve Fezzik mentioned hearing rumors of Prescott’s injury, which influenced the betting market.
“Word is, [Prescott’s] not 100 percent, and they’ve been betting against the Cowboys for the last three days. There are rumors of him having an MRI. That’s unconfirmed, but that’s what I’m hearing. Money has been going against the Cowboys. Their season win total is now down to ten,” Fezzik said.
Todd Archer from ESPN updated on Thursday that Prescott is no longer in a walking boot:
Prescott was spotted in a walking boot while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas in a picture posted to X on Wednesday. The timing of the picture is unclear, but according to sources, he is no longer wearing the boot.
The injury is not expected to affect Prescott when the Cowboys start their first training camp practice on July 25.
It remains unknown how Prescott sustained the injury, with the Cowboys’ last organized workout being on June 5. The Dallas Cowboys’ over/under is currently at 9.5 wins on several sportsbooks. Sports bettors were the first to report Prescott’s injury and seemed to believe it would impact him during the regular season, leading them to bet the under on the Cowboys’ win total. Although media reports indicate that Prescott’s sprained foot isn’t serious and won’t cause him to miss practice later this month, bettors haven’t restored the market to its previous state.
According to Vegas Insider, two sportsbooks have the Cowboys’ over/under at 10.5 wins, while four sportsbooks, including Bet MGM, have it at 9.5 wins.
Prescott has a history of injury with his right foot. In 2020, he suffered a season-ending injury in Week 5 due to a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle.
It’s unclear if sports bettors think the 2020 injury is related to the recent one that led Prescott to temporarily wear a walking boot. They seem to believe it was significant enough to impact the Cowboys’ season and are not betting on a quick recovery.
