With the Los Angeles Angels once again unlikely to make the postseason, several of their players, including reliever Carlos Estévez, could be targets for trades. The 31-year-old right-hander is coming off a standout month where he pitched 10 innings, tallying 10 strikeouts, eight saves, and maintaining a flawless 0.00 ERA. Recognized as the American League Reliever of the Month for June, Estévez acknowledges the strong possibility of being traded before the July 30 deadline, embracing the business aspect of baseball.
“I always approach it with no expectations to avoid disappointment,” Estévez told The Athletic’s Sam Blum. “Fans are speculating about trades, but whatever happens, it’s part of the game we love, albeit a business. Teams do what’s best for them. I’m hopeful for a bright future, ready to welcome whatever comes.”
Estévez sees a potential trade as an opportunity to join a contender, having spent his career thus far with the Angels and Colorado Rockies, franchises that have faced challenges. “Every player aims for playoffs and a World Series,” Estévez noted. “I’d love that chance. It’s a game and a business, but competing in the playoffs would be fulfilling.”
This season, Estévez has appeared in 27 games, pitching 27 innings with a 3.00 ERA, 27 strikeouts, and 16 saves, ranking him among the top 10 in Major League Baseball for saves.
