Summertime is when NFL players evaluate their current contracts and determine if they deserve better terms.
This seems to be the case for New England Patriots defensive end/linebacker Matt Judon, who is at a standstill with the team over a contract extension.
The four-time Pro Bowler, with 66.5 career sacks over eight years, is widely believed to deserve a raise. Judon ranks in the top ten for sacks in Patriots history, despite only three seasons with the team and missing most of last year due to a torn bicep.
Dov Kleiman reported that Judon reacted to a social media post urging the team to extend his contract by indicating he doesn’t think a deal is imminent. This reflects the sentiment of many New England fans who saw the defense struggle without him last season.
According to Spotrac, Judon will be in the final year of his contract this season. If not extended, rumors about a potential trade may intensify, and there’s a possibility Judon could start the 2024 season with the Patriots but be traded if the team performs poorly.
