The Arizona Cardinals are currently on their summer break before training camp begins at State Farm Stadium on July 23. The team has not made any roster or contract moves yet. However, with camp approaching, they have a few players who might be worth extending beyond this season. They have the cap space available for such extensions.

Who are the players that might make sense to extend before the season? Conner is entering the final year of his three-year, $21 million contract. He had a career season in 2023, rushing for 1,040 yards on 5.0 yards per carry, both career highs, in only 13 games. He was a major reason for their top-five rushing attack and is a key part of the offense. Although they drafted Trey Benson, who has RB1 potential, Conner’s production and locker room presence are worth rewarding.

Baker made another Pro Bowl last season and, after sitting out the offseason program and requesting a trade before getting a slightly revised deal, he has been content and active in offseason work. He is scheduled to be a free agent next year. Baker doesn’t play a premium position, but he is the type of player the team often prioritizes keeping. A year ago, he wanted to be paid as a top safety. Perhaps those demands have softened after many veteran safeties were cut this offseason. Fans would love to see him continue his career with the team.

Hernandez has secured the right guard position and has played well, bringing strength and nastiness. He will turn 29 just before the season begins, and although the Cardinals drafted Isaiah Adams in the third round, Hernandez seems set to play several more good years in the league. If the team wants continuity on the offensive line, keeping him around makes sense.

Froholdt was one of the biggest surprises last season. After being signed as a relatively unknown player, he was a solid starter all season. He signed a two-year deal to join the team last year and will hit free agency after the season. Keeping the big, strong center to anchor the middle of the offensive line would be a smart move.

There is no doubt that his presence on the field as the defensive playcaller and tone-setter makes a difference. He is physical, smart, and athletic. He is in the final year of his contract, and while the team signed Mack Wilson to a three-year deal this offseason, pairing them up for a couple more years would be beneficial.

This is more sentimental than practical. Dortch is poised to have a big season in a full-time offensive role. However, he will only be a restricted free agent next year, so there is no practical reason to extend him now when the Cardinals can simply give him a restricted free agent tender to keep him around for another season.
