Four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon seems to have accepted his fate with the Patriots, sarcastically hinting on social media that he’s leaving New England after three years with the franchise.

Judon’s ongoing contract dispute has sparked much debate, with most fans resigned to the idea that he’ll leave the rebuilding team.

As one of the NFL’s most productive defensive linemen, Judon’s departure would leave a significant void in New England’s defense as the team attempts to rebuild under first-round QB Drake Maye. Over his three seasons with the Patriots, Judon has amassed 133 tackles and an impressive 33 sacks. Despite his impact, it appears he no longer sees a future with the team.

Judon’s humorous tweet highlights the tension between him and the organization. For months, it has seemed likely that the star defender was on his way out, and today’s post solidifies that outcome.

As New England tries to build around Maye, Judon’s potential exit complicates the franchise’s plans. Following a disastrous 2023-24 season, the Patriots need as many playmakers as they can get. A fifth-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by Baltimore, Judon’s resume speaks for itself. Smart, competitive organizations don’t let players of his caliber walk, but it seems New England has already lost this battle.

Given the recent disappointing seasons, this is a significant loss for Jerod Mayo and his staff. While Judon might be joking, it certainly looks like the Patriots have taken a major hit today.
